Here’s a picture Amelia actually asked me to take…
Freckles looks exhausted and it’s probably because he’s been sleeping in Amelia’s room. I feel so lucky to have Freckles is our family. Whenever Amelia gets upset about the move petting Freckles always cheers her up.
Amelia is very sad about the move and the hardest part is that her friends don’t really understand it. She’s been to LA and seen her new school so it’s very real to her. When she tells her friends about the move they simply say, “Great I’ll see you in September” or “Is LA the name of your new apartment building?”
When her friends say innocent things like this, it sometimes makes her cry. Luckily, the nannies and moms in our building have been supportive and started to explain to their kids what’s happening. Yesterday during a playdate we all talked about the move and Amelia finally said what she is really stressed out about. She told us that she is afraid her friends will forget her.
One of the nannies suggested to have Amelia make gifts for her friends. Amelia dropped off a necklace at her best friend’s apartment yesterday and her friend hugged her and promised to never forget her. It was so sweet.
We live in a very social building and Amelia has been playing with many of the kids here her whole life. The community of our apartment building is something I am going to truly miss. In LA, we will be living in an apartment as well but there isn’t a playroom and there aren’t as many units. We won’t have the kind of community there that we have here.
Luckily, we have tons of friends in LA just a short drive away
