Shannon’s Mind on Monday: Private Schools & Studio City

We were in LA last week and it was amazing!

In one week were were able to find a preschool for next year. Decide which public school for K-5 we like and we even found an apartment. It’s so much easier than NY and it was great to be around so many friends. I am really excited for Amelia to grow up around my friends.
Now we are back in NYC and surprise surprise it is still snowing! The second we got back home I felt the pressure and sadness of NY again and couldn’t believe we didn’t move sooner. I am so excited to move. My goal is just to enjoy these last few months here.

We are moving to Studio City. Amelia is excited about it because it’s where so many movies and TV shows are made.

Next year Amelia will be going to a private preschool but after that it’s public school. Part of it is a financial choice but it’s also an ethical one. After 2 years in the private school system, I am over it for so many reasons. This Slate article does a really good job of calling out private schools on a lot of their bullshit.

NY Mag did an expose about whether or not ethical parenting is possible in a high pressure environment like NYC. When I read the article all I can think is how happy I am that we made the choice to leave when we did.

Now back to packing and thinking positively… I don’t want NY to bring me down anymore than it already has.

So glad y’all accomplished so much while there…
That’s got to be a HUGE weight off your shoulders!!!
I know how you feel about the whole public/private school debate…
The daycare I finally got Ian into is a GREAT place and he really loves it…
The plus side is once he hits Kindergarten if I choose to keep him there, I can qualify for financial aide, which is a huge plus… Because depending on the school district we end up in… He might have to go there and with his LATE birthday, it might be the better choice as it is…
But at least it’s not one of those schools that you send your child to so you can look good…
It’s a Montessori school and so far, so good… :0)

Just think…. A few more weeks and you’ll be living in the SUNSHINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😛

Let's Make Some Noise!
