Camp 2014

On Monday, Amelia had her first day of camp!

I was so nervous about it. She has to ride on a bus by herself to camp and we have never been a part for 9 hours. I thought about canceling it but it’s just too hard to work on opening up our club while taking care of a 3 year old. So yesterday she went on a bus to a different county.

When the bus came, she walked on by herself and didn’t even say bye. The second her bus was out of sight I cried. I am so proud of her but it’s just so scary being away from your kid. It was really hard for me to not call the camp multiple times that day. Luckily, I was able to control myself.

At 5:30pm, her bus arrived and I saw her counselor say she had to get off the bus and go home and guess what she did? She cried hysterically! She screamed, “I don’t want to go home! I want to go to camp!” It was cute and I was happy she had fun but part of me was like, “Seriously, You get to go back to camp tomorrow can’t you be happy to have dinner with old mom and dad?”

When we got home she calmed down. She told us about how she learned about a new sport called hockey and got to go swimming twice! She made a lot of friends and loves her counselors. It was reassuring to listen to her joyfully talk about her day.

I am really proud of her but it’s also shocking to believe that she is old enough to go on a bus to a camp in a different county!

You are a brave woman! I don’t know how you let her go in her own…I’m the one that would have “dropped by” to see for myself how things were going. Even if they didn’t know I was there.

She seems to have a great time at camp. I’m sure this is good that she loves camp enough to have (possibly?) forgotten about going to the same class of school.

I think you’re raising a very independent little girl with a bus load of confidence. She’s already just wanting life on her terms. And in the long run, as my oldest girl was the same way, she’ll grow closer to you and that’s the best part, even if it does take years to get there.

Yay, A! Summer fun is the best, Miss. Enjoy it! And you know, hockey can be year round… 🙂 Keep smilin’!

Thanks. I hope she does grow closer! And yes, she has stopped being sad about her teachers because she loves her new counselors. I will have to learn about hockey because I know nothing about it!

I remember the first time my youngest went to camp…16 years ago now. I can’t believe how the time goes by so fast. And I can’t believe how much Princess A has grown!
