Princess A has wanted to put her hair in a ponytail for a long time. All of her friends have long hair and she wants to be like the other girls in ballet. Her hair is very fine and still short so I have not been able to do this…yet! Well, last week I was finally able to get her hair in a ponytail and she was very pleased with herself.
The first time The Husband and I looked at her in a ponytail we got a little teary eyed. She looks so grown up! She even looks demure with a ponytail.
But then we got to class and she was back to being her goofy self.
Princess A is going through a growth spurt so we had to get new ballet slippers and leotards. I wanted to get a leopard pair again but she opted for these classic pink slippers.
She also wanted pink tights and a black leotard. I wanted to buy wild and crazy stuff but she wanted simple. I let her dress wild all the time so maybe it is fun for her to be simple every once in a while.
She was so happy that day in dance class, it looked like she was thrilled to be dressed like her friends. I love standing out and so does Princess A. But this experience taught me that sometimes it’s fun for kids to blend in and be just like their friends. Princess A looked like she was a member of the coolest ballerina club!
She was able to do 2nd position for the first time in her life. Maybe the serious ballerina garb helped.
Who knows but now I have learned a very important lesson… sometimes kids like to be a part of a team and match their friends. So from now on, expect to see a more refined Princess A… at least while she is in ballet class.

She’s growing up beautifully Shannon!! Kudos to you too for letting her explore being herself! I think she will be a MUCH more confident person when she grows up for it!
Thank you Jennifer!
She is too cute in that ponytail. I got a bit teary eyed myself when both my girls were able to have one. Juliet’s dance is all about the flashy so I had to upgrade her wardrobe to match the other girls. I hope to send pics soon! Oh, and she loves seeing A’s dance stuff and tells me how much she wants some of the tutus.
Yes, definitely send me some pictures. All the girls in A’s class dress simple so I have the opposite problem. I had to calm her wardrobe down and buy simple stuff. Target has some new Harajuku Mini stuff coming out on March 3rd. You should check it out because we get most of our tutus there.
Such a beauty with her ponytail! She looks so traditional, but she also looks happy. I’m sure she’ll change her mind next week
Good point Melissa… the only thing you can expect from toddlers is change!
The ponytail changes her face. She grow up so fast, it’s crazy ! Even if she wears a classic outfit, Princess A is always beautiful !
We were shocked by how much it changes it her face as well.
Oh my goodness…. She looks just too adorable indeed. I love it. She is def getting to be a beautiful young lady. Kids love to be unique but they also like to be just like everyone else.
Agreed. And it’s so cute watching her copy her friends.
Oh Princess A looks so cute in her ponytail! She is really adorable. I wonder how she wants to look next.
This little girl is definitely cute in her pony tail! I remember her looking all rock star with the wand in her hand. I can’t wait for her next look.
Thanks!
