When my cousin Julie told me she might move to New York my first thought was, “Please Please Please God make her move here I desperately need a babysitter!… oh and I would also love to see more of my cousin… but more importantly I need a break!”
We hung out a lot as kids but college and life had made it harder to see as much of each other as I would like. When she decided to definitely move here I was excited Princess A would get to see someone from my side of the family on a regular basis, we would hang out, oh and the BABYSITTING!
See, we don’t need and can’t afford a full time nanny. I just want a day off once a week and someone we can call if we want to go out on a date. Unfortunately, it is next to impossible to find someone in New York who will babysit every once in a while. It’s an expensive city and most of the experienced babysitters want full time 9-5 jobs which is completely understandable. Also, it’s such a big city it’s hard to trust a complete stranger with your kid. Sure you can do background checks and check references but you are still having a complete stranger take care of your kid.
That’s why I feel so blessed that my cousin is our babysitter. I get time off and feel completely confident and comfortable leaving my princess and puppy in her care. She gets to make some extra money while working for the MOST AWESOME BOSS EVER! Princess A and Freckles get to spend regular quality time with a family member who is also a good example because she is getting a graduate degree. Everyone wins!
So this post really has no point except to thank my cousin for moving to New York and babysitting my babies.
