I am so excited about this that I forgot to blog about it!
Just as I was starting to get sick of all the Olivia books and TV shows we own, a new season of Olivia started playing AND Ian Falconer released a new Olivia book. I pre-ordered it a month ago and should be receiving it any day now. YES!
The New York Times gave it an amazing review. I don’t really care what book critics say. If I like something I like something and I was buying this book no matter what but I found the review very interesting. In this book, Olivia is annoyed that all the princesses are pink and always look the same. Olivia likes red and thinks there are other options besides the typical pink princess with a tutu.
While I LOVE pink and tutus, I agree with her. It’s hard to find cute girl’s clothes that aren’t completely pink. I buy Princess A a ton of boys clothes and love to mix a boy dinosaur tee with a frilly tutu. Which reminds me why are dinosaur clothes only in the boys clothing section? Girls like dinosaurs too!
Back to Olivia. I haven’t gotten to read her latest work yet but this book sounds like another example of why I love this little piglet. She loves Maria Callas, Degas, and dogs. She doesn’t care if all her friends like to watch TV. She would rather be at a museum looking at paintings or at a library reading books. I hope my daughter learns to march to the beat of her own drum from Olivia!
Yesterday, Princess A was laughing harder than I have ever seen her laugh while watching an episode of Olivia where her dog Perry is acting crazy. I thought to myself about how happy I am that a strong heroine like Olivia is around and that my daughter enjoys her so much.
I am also thankful for Ian Falconer the author and illustrator of these glam books. PLEASE continue to write more Olivia books because they make my daughter giggle.
