Going to Governors Island!

Last weekend the Husband and I decided to go on an island vacation to Governors Island. The grandparents came over for four hours so we wanted to make the most of it. Governors Island is just a free 5 minute boat ride away from lower Manhattan. It was a fort and then home to the US Coast Guard. Now the City of New York is redoing it and creating a fun public space.

We had so much fun. It felt like we had taken a time machine to another era or like we were exploring an abandoned ghost town.

Ice Cream Sandwich

My favorite part though was the awesome ice cream sandwiches! One cookie was red velvet, the other was snickerdoodle, and the ice cream was Oreo. It was so awesome.

If you are visiting New York City in the summer you should really consider visiting Governors Island. The views are amazing, it’s like nothing else in New York, and the boat ride is FREE. It is closed in the winter which is the only negative :(

  1. That place looked really cool. Is it open during the Spring?

  2. If I ever make it to New York I will certainly do that. I’m a sucker for history and food that is sold out of trucks!
