fish head east river new york city

Yesterday I took Princess A and Freckles for an early morning stroll along the river. I let Princess A out on her stroller so she could walk around a bit and stare at the water. As we walked home I noticed something smelled a bit fishy. We had just been near the river and it was already 90 degrees out so I shrugged it off.

When we got home I started to take Princess A out of the stroller and she smiled and handed me a fish head. YES AN ACTUAL FISH HEAD. I dropped it in shock and then Freckles picked it up, dropped it at my feet, and smiled. It was like they thought they had given me some amazing gift.

I quickly disposed of the fish head and then washed everyone’s hands and paws about a million and one times. How did this even happen and why were they so proud of themselves?

It reminded me of Christmas morning when I was a child. No matter how hard we tried, every year my uncle’s dog would come inside with a dead bird in her mouth and drop it next to the tree. She was always so proud of herself and we were always grossed out!

I guess fish heads and dead birds are a dog and sometimes baby’s way of saying thank you. I tried to take it as a compliment but I am still completely freaked out by the incident.

Have your human, canine, or feline babies given you disgusting gifts? If so what? Or am I the only one?!?!?!?!

I’m very lucky my cats are both indoor only kitties.

One time when my Leland was very tiny, he did manage to crawl up my clothes hamper, pull out one of my bras and drag it all the way downstairs and to me in the living room. It was funny because he was so small at the time, my bra was bigger than he was! I’m going to say we’d had him for only about a week when he did this.

That is so funny and cute. Yes, you are lucky your cats live indoors. I have heard of cats catching birds and mice!
