I was checking my twitter while getting ready for the event and I noticed that Betsey Johnson had tweeted about how she was going to the Tom Cruise event. I screamed so loud my husband ran in thinking something was wrong. I had hoped I would meet her but didn’t want to get too excited.
When we got to the Waldorf Astoria it was held in a huge room. I kept looking everywhere for her unique hairstyle. Finally I found her and I was so happy I screamed “BETSEY!” It was not smooth at all!
She asked me to come to her table and I told her how much I love her and her style. Also, what a role model to me she is as a women and mother. I begged her to start doing children’s fashion again for Princess A and she said she is going to start doing costumes for kids with lots of tutus and tiaras. YES!!!!!!!!!!! Princess A will be so happy but Betsey can you please make them in adult sizes so I can match my daughter?
Then Betsey offered to take a picture with me and I couldn’t resist. I thanked her and went on my way. Later, I ran into her in the bathroom and felt like such a stalker but whatever it was kismet.
I wish I could have told the childhood me who got picked on for wearing crazy Betsey Johnson clothes that I would grow up and get to meet her. It would have made the bullying easier to handle. But I think if someone told me that as a kid I wouldn’t have believed them anyway.
So Betsey Johnson, thanks for designing amazing clothes and for making a small town Kansas girl’s dreams come true by talking to me for 5 minutes!!!! You are even cooler in person!
